Loughside  U14s 0  Northend United U14s 0                                               Saturday 11th February 2012

An under strength Northend can count themselves unlucky not to have won this entertaining game against a strong Loughside team. This was a good performance from Northend who played the better football and only for poor finishing would have taken all three points. The defence played well and the midfield competed across the park, however Leo Morgan played the lone striker giving his all till substituted with five minutes to go. The game was played at a good fast pace with Northend making most of the running. The midfield played very well and never allowed Loughside to settle at any time on the ball. The Loughside forwards where quick and when given good ball the Northend defence had to be alert to deal with them. James Morgan in the Northend goals made a brilliant save from a well struck shot that was bound for the top corner, which was applauded by both sides. Again a little more composure in-front of the Loughside goals would have seen Northend score on at least for occasions in the first half, however this did not takeaway the good play that led up to the missed opportunities to score . It was a physical game and Northend did not allow them selves to be knocked off their game. Half time score 0-0

The second half was just minutes old when Loughside had a good chance to score only for the ball to rebound off a post and was quickly cleared. Northend had a series of corners from which they just could not the ball into the net. From one corner the ball was cleared only for it to be won back sharply and Leo Morgan sent a lob come shot goal bound. The Loughside keeper made a great save as he just got a hand to the ball and pushed it onto the crossbar and he managed to gather it on the rebound. The game flowed back and forth however in the last ten minutes Northend where camped in Loughside's half pressing for a winning goal. With only a minute left Thomas Ferguson must have thought he had won it for Northend when he shot volley goal wards, only for one of his own players tempted into trying to guide the ball, only to deflect it away from the goal.

Carnmoney Colts U14s  2  Northend United U14s  3                                     Saturday 4th February 2012

A very good game of football from both sides was the referee comments after the game. Indeed it was an exciting game for the neutral to watch. From Northend's point of view this is the perhaps their best game of the season, when all of the team gave 100% and the work rate on and off the ball was outstanding.  From the start the tone was set with numerous high quality tackles from the defence and midfielders that left the Colts knowing this was going to be a difficult game for them. The defence led by their Captain Michael Carberry where excellent through the game; however the midfield to-day raised their game to the level that had been missing in recent games. Adrian Dubyna was like a tiger in his tackles and covered every blade of grass on the pitch while Thomas Ferguson and Jack Dawson held their shape and provided extra cover for the defence when needed and caused the Colts lots of problems when in possession of the ball with their quick passing and strong running. Conor Bannon was the creator of many of the good moves from midfield with his passing and ability to withstand the tackle and continue his run. Northend struck first when a free kick won on the edge of the box by Krystian Yaworski who tormented the Colts defence throughout the game was brought down by a despairing tackle from the Colts defender. Leo Morgan struck a brilliant free kick which left the keeper routed to the spot, however it struck the post and rebounded out only for a Colts defender in desperation with two Northend players ready to pounce sliced the ball into his own goal. This lead was well deserved by Northend who had played the better football. From another attack started from defence with the ball carried into midfield and played wide with sharp passing the ball was played into the feet of Conor Bannon, who rounded two defenders to calmly slide the ball past the keeper to extend Northend's lead to two nil. Carnmoney responded strongly with strong running from their number ten and eight who found the Northend defence difficult to break down. Carnmoney pressed strongly and forced a corner from which the only lapse from the Northend defence from set pieces was head clear only to fall to the feet of a Colt's striker who shot high into the net to reduce Northend's lead. Half time score 2-1

The second half saw Northend again on the attack and how they did not extend their lead with the chances created, was to bite them shortly. From a Colts free kick the referee allowed the resulting goal to stand when three Colts players from a Northend point of view where left standing in an offside position when the ball was played. Credit to Northend as they went straight back onto the attack and played neat football to score a great team goal. A Colts attack was broke up in midfield and the ever willing Ronan Ward, who had a great game at fullback, continued his run and was found by a pinpoint pass from Bannon between three defenders. Ward had the composure to look up and find Krystian Yaworski who pivoted and struck a brilliant goal on the turn to give Northend the lead again. Northend defended the rest or the game like their lives depended upon it and well deserved their win. Special mention must go to the Man of the Match Leo Morgan who again played a very good game. He led the line well and constantly held the ball up to allow his midfield to join in the attacks. However he worked back into midfield to defend and was a constant thorn for the Colts defence with his ability to shot from various angles .

Barn United U14s  5  Northend United U14s  2                                     Saturday 21st January 2012

Both teams found it difficult to play against the strong wind that blew across the pitch. That said Barn where the sharper team and were able to find their men with good passing and movement. Northend slowly got into the game however at present they are not able to hold the ball long enough to put pressure onto their opponents. Northend's defence was under pressure as Barn was able to control the midfield and play the ball into the Northend goal area. Strong running by David Kilgore found him on the edge of the Barn area and he played a neat pass into the space were Thomas Ferguson ran onto the ball to shoot Northend into the lead. Barn came back strongly and soon were level when a cross was not dealt with allowed their striker to score. Again Barn were allowed too much time on the ball and soon converted their procession into goals scoring twice before halftime. Half time score 3-1 to Barn United

Northend started well but could not convert any of the chances made. Indeed as the match went on Barn again proved to be stronger and more alert when in procession of the ball. It came as no surprise when Barn went two more goals up, as they had controlled the midfield and their front men caused problems throughout the game.  On a rare occasion when Northend played them selves into a good position they just did not find the pass that was needed and too often play broke down without Barns defence really put under pressure. Late on in the game David Kilgore showed how dangerous he can be with the right supply of the ball, when he picked up the ball and completely left his marker routed to the spot only then to be brought down in the box for a penalty. Northend's young goalkeeper steeped up to take the spot kick and scored to give some respectability to the score line.

Waveney U14s  6  Northend United U14s  1                                                  Saturday 14th January 2012

This was a very disappointing performance from the U14 team on the day. Take nothing away from a good, strong Waveney side that showed their opponents what the game is about and what commitment and character is required to play this game, never mind the skill and fitness. To many players to-day just did not perform to the level that is expected of a team that can play so much better, where was the energy, drive ambition plus the team work that is seen so often from them.
From a moral and creditable performance against St Pats on Monday night past this has to be the without doubt the poorest performance so far this season. As said Waveney were very good value for their win, they play a good game and used the ball well. The opening ten minutes saw Waveney settle into their game plan and from two crosses which should have been better defended they scored two goals. Half time Waveney 2 Northend 0

Northend just could not hold the ball for any length of time and Waveney's midfield played a superior game all through the match. To often have Northend dependent upon their Capaint Michael Carberry and his central partner Yanusz Woitowicz to give them Man of the Match performances, but it cannot happen every week, as Northend's two central defenders just could not cover all the areas that needed to be. It is unfair to say that the team did not try; indeed much credit goes to Leo Morgan who covered every inch of the pitch and never stopped working for the team, along with Krystian Yaworski, Conor Bannon and Adrian Dubyna. Final Score Waveney 6 Northend 1

Northend United U14s  0  St. Patrick's U14s  6                                     Monday 9th January 2012 NIBFA Cup

Northend started well however it was not long till St Patrick's showed their superior level of movement and strong running of the ball. That said Northend matched their opposition in most areas of the pitch, with the central partnership of Yanusz Woitowicz and Michael Carberry holding the back line in place. Northend just could not get any real possession on of the ball in the central midfield areas that said when they did have the ball and it was move quickly to the front men, it did cause concern in the St Patrick's back line. Good awareness by St Pats down the Northend left hand side saw St Pats with time and space, from a good cross the Northend keeper made a good save only for the ball to hit one of his own players and rebound into the goal, to give St Pats the lead. Northend worked hard to get hold of the ball but found it very difficult against a well drilled St Pats midfield. With halftime only minutes away St Pats scored again to extend their lead to 2-0 at half time.

The second half followed much of the same pattern as the first with St Pats pressing. Some fine defending by Woitowicz and Carberry kept them at bay; however the amount of possession and pressure from St Pats was bound to tell. St Pats scored four more times during the game, again good defending by the two Northend centre backs supported by their goal keeper helped to keep any further scores . Northend did have a chance early in the second half, a great header from Harry Kilgore was finger tipped onto the crossbar by the St Pats keeper. Towards the end of the game more chances came their way, however one touch too many allowed the St Pats defence to recover

Northend United U14s  3  Chimney Corner U14s  1                                              Saturday 7th January 2012

Northend started well with the Kilgore brothers along with eoL Morgan showing well. The first goal came from good play through the midfield by Conor Bannon with the ball moved with pace to find Harry Kilgore on the edge of the box. He controlled the ball and fired a firm shot past the Corner keeper low into the net. Northend continued to press and with a combination of poor finishing and two excellent saves by the Corner keeper kept the score to one nil to Northend after the first twenty minutes. Chimney Corner slowly found their way into the game and always looked to get the ball forward at every opportunity. The Northend defence was holding firm with their Capt. Michael Carberry and Yanusz Woitowicz playing well and controlling Corners front men. It seemed only a matter of time before Northend could find a measured pass and increase their lead, however how many times have we seen a team control the game and miss numerous chances, only to concede against the run of play. Lack of concentration on the Northend defensive right side allowed the Corner winger to pick up a loose pass and score a good goal to leave the team's one each with minutes before half time. From the restart Northend pressed forward intent to regain the lead. Good play by Harry Kilgore down the left hand wing found Leo Morgan who passed a well weighted ball into the path of David Kilgore who placed the ball wide of the Corner keeper to regain the lead for Northend just before halftime. Half time score 2-1

The second half followed much of the same pattern as the first with Northend pressing. Chimney Corner made substitutions early and this gave them a freshness which began to stretch Northend in midfield. Corner came more into the game and Northend had an uncomfortable passage of play, while trying to increase their lead they now had to be aware not to be caught at the back. Again Michael Carberry with his partner Yanusz Woitowicz stepped up to the task holding the line and making some strong tackles when needed. Northend made three changes and with the lively Krystian Yaworski now causing problems on the right wing. Slowly Northend regained control of the midfield with Conor Bannon and Thomas Ferguson playing good solid football. Northend played the ball wide for their wingers to get forward. From one such movement, a through ball played in behind the Corner back four found Krystian Yaworski running through with the keeper to beat, as he rounded the keeper he was brought down to give Northend a penalty and a chance to widen the score between them and Corner. Leo Morgan stepped up and placed the ball high and wide of the diving Corner keeper to make the score 3-1 to Northend.
